Soft pretzel recipe

Not sure you can make soft pretzels at home? Yes, definitely! This soft pretzel recipe uses a few basic ingredients, and I show you how to shape them. 

– 1 cup (240 ml) warm water – 1 tablespoon (12 grams) granulated sugar – 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast – 1 teaspoon salt – 2 tablespoons (30 grams) unsalted butter , melted and slightly cooled

– 3 to 3 ½ cups (375 to 440 grams) all-purpose flour spooned & leveled – 9 cups water – 1/2 cup (125 grams) baking soda – 2 tablespoons (30 ml) unsalted butter , melted – Coarse sea salt

Direction

Preheat oven to 425°F (218°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment or silicone. Sugar and warm water in a big bowl. After gently stirring, let yeast foam for 5 minutes.

Add salt and melted butter. Just mix two cups (250 grams) flour, then add one. Keep dough thick and non-sticky.

Knead the dough for 3–5 minutes on a lightly floured surface, then form a Leave dough covered for 10 minutes. Whisk baking soda into 9 cups of water in a large pot over high heat, then boil.

Cut the dough into 8 equal pieces. Make 20-inch ropes from each piece. Every rope end should be U-shaped. Twist and press the ends onto the U bottom to make pretzels.

Dip pretzels in boiling water for 20 seconds (10 per side) with a slotted spoon or spatula. Gently remove pretzel water. Bake pretzels. Add coarse sea salt to melted butter.

After 8–10 minutes in the oven, brown them under the broiler for 2–3 minutes (be careful!) Use extra butter on pretzels.
