McDonald's Employee Explains Why Ketchup Tastes Different From Heinz

Fast food imitation recipes are everywhere online. Marco, a TikTok chef, posted a McDonald's-style ketchup recipe. In 2013, McDonald's stopped serving Heinz ketchup. Many individuals favor one ketchup over the other, although opinions are mixed.

Marco claims in his video to know why McDonald's ketchup “hits so much different” than Heinz. He blended tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, water, herbs, and a cup of honey. Marco suggests in his film that “the big difference between McDonald’s and Heinz ketchup is that there’s a little bit more vinegar.”

In reaction to this video, former McDonald's chef Mike Haracz clarified on TikTok. “If you go on the McDonald's website and look under their burgers and look at the ingredients statement of the ketchup on their burgers and compare that to Heinz, it is almost identical

What's the difference? He says Heinz adds "some added ingredients to it, making it maybe more flavorful." He says, "The ingredients statements are almost identical."

His greatest Marco recipe change? "I guarantee neither is putting honey in ketchup." However, that would be healthier than high-fructose corn syrup.

Heinz's only new ingredients are "spice" and onion powder, compared to McDonald's. Both recipes include red ripe tomato concentrate, distilled vinegar, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, water, salt, and natural flavors.
