The best garlic herb butter prime rib recipe makes the best herb crust! Serve this delicious meal with your favourite sides for a great holiday dinner.
INGREDIENT
– 1 5-pound Bone-In Prime Rib Roast– 1 cup unsalted butter*– 5 cloves garlic minced– 1 teaspoon garlic powder– 1/2 tsp black pepper– 1 Tbsp fresh rosemary chopped**– 1 Tbsp fresh thyme chopped– 1 Tbsp sea salt
INSTRUCTIONS
Heat the oven to 500°F. Dry the prime rib with paper towels and place it in a large roasting pan or baking dish.
Step 1
Mix softened butter, minced garlic, garlic powder, and fresh herbs in a small bowl. Use garlic butter on the entire prime rib. Prime rib fat cap should face up.
Step 2
Roast 5 minutes per pound at 500°F. Prime rib weighs 5 pounds and takes 25 minutes. Release heat and lower the oven to 300°F by opening the door.
Step 3
Keep baking until the internal temperature reaches 120–125 for rare, 130–135 for medium-rare, or 138–140 for medium. Roasting a 5-pound medium-rare prime rib takes under two hours.
Step 4
Insert an instant read thermometer into the thickest part of the roast and wait until the numbers stop moving for an accurate meat temperature.
Step 5
Rest the meat for 15 minutes after removing it from the oven. While the prime rib rests, make au jus or gravy from the roasting pan drippings.
Step 6
Cut the meat into steaks on a board with a sharp knife. Cut ribs from a bone-in rib roast before making steaks. Serve prime rib with your favourite sides and enjoy!
